Still Rise Coffee, then known only as ‘Baker St Coffee,’ was opened in September 2019 by Robert Hughes, who aspired to provide an ethical place for the people of Brighton and beyond to purchase and drink coffee whilst contributing to a better world through responsible business.

Our philosophy
Still Rise philosophy is cleaner, healthier, sustainable living. Our aim is to reduce and help others reduce stresses we place on natural resources.
An unremitting quest for green alternatives motivates everything we do.
Still Rise is the first small chain of Coffee shops in the UK to join the “1% for the Planet” movement.
A conscientious business
Sustainability has become a buzz word in recent years; however, the majority of businesses are far from sustainable and very few are actually beneficial to the planet. This is why Still Rise Coffee deliberately classifies itself as a “conscientious” business. We are constantly seeking and implementing more eco-friendly ways of working, with like-minded people.
Our vision & mission
“To become sustainable and beneficial for the planet; offering products and services that inspire and initiate solutions to environmental problems.”
Still Rise is continually developing its values and philosophies and in order to provide ‘quality, reliability and sustainability’ we have to go much deeper than those initial words lead us to believe.
Quality to us is now a question of consequential ethics and a different perspective may be needed to fully understand this.

Our Business Model
Coffee is an integral part of a lot of people’s lives. We understand this; however, the way we consume this commodity is far from sustainable. (2.5 Billion paper cups are disposed of in Britain alone and world wide over 20 million trees are cut down each year to produce the global supply of them.) We encourage a less disposable culture by constantly recommending the use of reusable cups, or by encouraging our customers to take a seat and enjoy a much needed breather from hectic schedules.
It is not just the waste but also the growing of the coffee and then the processes the beans go through before they hit the grinder ready for your cup, starting with the farming we know that mono-cropping is not good for the environment so we look for regenerative farmers to source from, these farmers are also guardians of their land they use best practices to not only sustain but improve the spaces they farm.
Processing the beans varies from organic methods to more intensive methods. Roasting is also a high energy consuming process, we look for beans that have received the same care and have been responsibly processed to help keep the footprint low.
